How it works
Four steps. Your assistant writes, Notesmakr saves, you study.
Create a token in the app
Open the Notesmakr app, go to Settings → Connect AI assistants and tap Create token. Copy it — it is shown only once.
Add Notesmakr to your AI assistant
Add the MCP server https://notesmakr.com/api/mcp to your assistant with the header "Authorization: Bearer <your token>". See the guides for Claude Code, Cursor and Claude Desktop.
Ask for a note
Ask your assistant to make a Notesmakr note on any topic or file. It writes the note, saves it, and can attach flashcards, a quiz and a mind map. It can also save a flashcard deck on its own, with front/back or fill-in-the-blank (cloze) cards.
Study on your phone
Open Notesmakr. The note is at the top of your Notes list (pull down to refresh), with its flashcards, quiz and mind map ready.
Your assistant writes the content using the same Feynman-style format and study prompts the Notesmakr app uses, so the note opens and studies like one made in the app. (Quiz and mind map titles are saved in English.)
Pick your assistant
Each guide has the exact command or config to copy, with your token in the right place.

Once connected, ask in your own words. A few to start with:

- “Make a Notesmakr flashcard deck of 15 fill-in-the-blank cards for the key terms in this chapter.”
- “Explain how TCP handshakes work as a simple Notesmakr note, then quiz me with 8 questions in the app.”
- “Write a Notesmakr note in Spanish about the water cycle.”
Plans, limits and security
Plans and limits
- Each note created through MCP uses 1 note from your Notesmakr plan. Free accounts include 5 notes.
- Adding flashcards, quizzes and mind maps to a note is free.
- Each token can make up to 60 requests a minute and 300 changes a day, and each account up to 1,000 changes a day.
- Questions about plans? See the FAQ.
Security
- Tokens are created in the app, shown once, and stored only as a hash.
- A token can add notes and attach study tools. It cannot read, change or delete your notes.
- Revoke a token any time in Settings → Connect AI assistants.
Troubleshooting
- 401 UnauthorizedThe token is missing, mistyped or revoked. Create a new one in the app.
- 429 Too many requestsWait a minute and try again.
- Note limit reachedUpgrade or buy a note pack in the app.
- Not saved: not in the Notesmakr formatExpected on a first try. Your assistant reads the writing guide, rewrites the note and saves it again. Nothing is saved and no note is used until the format is right.
- The note is not in the appPull down on the Notes list to refresh.
Frequently asked questions
What is the Notesmakr MCP server?
It is a Model Context Protocol (MCP) server that lets AI assistants such as Claude Code, Cursor and Claude Desktop save study notes to your Notesmakr account, with flashcards, quizzes and mind maps attached, so you can study them in the Notesmakr app.
Does it cost anything?
Each note the assistant creates uses 1 note from your Notesmakr plan, the same as a note you create in the app. Free accounts include 5 notes. Adding flashcards, quizzes and mind maps to a note, and saving a flashcard deck on its own, are free and do not use your plan.
Which AI assistants work with Notesmakr?
Any MCP client that can connect to a remote server and send an Authorization header. There are step-by-step guides for Claude Code, Cursor, VS Code (GitHub Copilot), Claude Desktop, Codex, Gemini CLI, GitHub Copilot CLI, Devin Desktop (formerly Windsurf), Zed, Cline, Kiro and OpenCode. Connecting from claude.ai, the Claude phone apps and ChatGPT is coming soon.
Can the assistant read my existing notes?
No. A Notesmakr token can only add new notes and flashcard decks, and attach flashcards, quizzes and mind maps to your notes. It cannot read, change or delete anything in your account.
How do I stop an assistant from adding notes?
Open Settings → Connect AI assistants in the app and tap Revoke next to the token. The assistant stops working immediately.
Is my token safe?
Notesmakr stores only a hash of your token, never the token itself, and shows it to you once. Treat it like a password: do not share it or commit it to a code repository.
Why does Notesmakr not generate the note itself?
Your assistant already understands the conversation and your files, so it writes the note using the Notesmakr format and study prompts, and Notesmakr saves it. The note looks the same as one made in the app.
